Covering vitiligo can be a challenge, but it's definitely doable with the right tools and techniques. Here are a few tips that I gathered:
1. Self tanners. Self tanner can be a great way to help cover up vitiligo. It can help to even out skin tone and make the affected areas less noticeable. These go on like had cream and develop the color in 4 hours or so. They do not go away with washing but fade away in a week or so. I tried this once it did not work for me as well but if I had more widespread vitiligo, I think I would try again.
2. Use sunscreen. Sunscreen is important no matter what, but it's especially important when you're trying to cover up vitiligo patches. Sun exposure can make the patches more visible, increasing the contrast. I noticed that my vitiligo is more visible in summer months. So using a 50+ SPF all the time is key here.
3. If female, use makeup. Makeup and foundation can make vitiligo less noticeable. Unfortunately guys do not have this option as much as the girls do.
